Time for some more “blurb” and congratulations to Kevin Allman for scoring his umpteenth hundred and to Greg Langridge on his first one. However League results are not quite going our way with the 1st’s winning only one game (a thrashing against Horsmonden) and the 2nd’s being deprived of a win against St Lawrence because of rain.

On a more serious note, it is with great sadness that I inform you that Don Wiffen passed away a couple of weeks ago. Don was a stalwart of the club, both as a player, a supporter, and a Vice President. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.

To all playing members, please remember that you only have a couple more weeks to pay your playing subscriptions at the cheaper rate of £60:00. If you leave it until July, the cost will rise to £70:00. The Treasurer informs me that only a very few people have so far paid.

Lastly, a couple of dates for your diarys:

Saturday 5th July QUIZ NIGHT

Saturday 16th August RACE NIGHT

Please come along to these events; bring your families, friends and anyone else you can think of to help support the club. They are great fun and are of vital importance to the club in its fund-raising endeavours.

The aim of this page is to try and communicate some of the issues of the Club to the Members in the easiest possible way.

For example, as I stated at the pre-season dinner, this year’s ambition is to raise a serious amount of money to help set the club up financially for a number of projects now and in the future. You may have noticed the refurbishment of the Gent’s lavatories that has occurred in recent weeks. Huge thanks in particular to Carol and Bob for all their hard work and to the same few who have spent so much time trying to get the Ground and Pavilion ready for the new season. To start the ball rolling with regard to fund-raising, we are trying to get 49 names together for the bonus ball. The winning number each week will receive £25 – But you have to be in it to win it!

I also want to mention the poisoned chalice job – The Team Secretary. Jo Allman kindly volunteered to do this job but she needs and deserves all our support. PLEASE can you let the Team Captains know your availability after the game on Saturday/Sunday so that they can have a proper selection meeting. Jo will phone you during the week to let you know what team you’re in, where you are playing and at what time you start. If you have ANY problems, you MUST phone her as soon as possible to let her know so that someone else can take your place. Not turning up is simply not acceptable as it deprives someone else of a game and leaves the team a man short.

In the meantime, the League is just starting. Let’s hope for a successful season
